Inspect your water heater
Most water heaters can last up to 10 years – or more – with the proper care and routine maintenance. For starters, you can lower the temperature setting to 115 degrees Fahrenheit to keep your unit from over-heating.
You should also periodically drain your water heater to prevent sediment build-up. Sediment can lead to corrosion and shorten the lifespan of your water heater. Note: if you notice bits of rust or metal in your water heater, it’s a good time to call a professional. The presence of those particles is an indication that your anode rod needs replacing. A faulty anode rod also will lead to corrosion.
